5. Jay Bruce

It is no secret that most everybody that can move is available to move in Cincinnati. And while the Mariners’ offense has scored the sixth most runs in the American League this year, Bruce would certainly be a major improvement from the Seth Smith in right field.

Bruce has enjoyed a resurgence this year that has seen him hit 21 home runs and drive in 73 runs, while making his first All-Star Game since 2012. Now is the right time for the Reds to move their revitalized corner outfielder, and he would take the surprisingly potent Mariners lineup –who are currently third in the AL in team home runs— to making them potentially the most dangerous lineup in the AL.

They will need this type of offensive uptick if they elect to not make substantial improvements to their pitching staff, which has been steady but also subject to injuries to most of its core at one point or another this year.

Beyond that, Bruce carries some value beyond this year as well, as he has a modest $13 million option for 2017 which would assure he would not be a rental property only. The Mariners need more production throughout their entire lineup, and Bruce is the perfect fit for such growth.
