5 NFL teams desperate enough to sign Nick Foles
By John Buhler
It doesn’t matter that the Houston Texans spent a small fortune on former Denver Broncos backup quarterback Brock Osweiler, the reigning AFC South Division Champions could be in the market to upgrade their lackluster quarterback room.
Head coach Bill O’Brien seems to get the most out of his quarterbacks at any of his stops as a coach (New England, Penn State, Houston). That being said, are Osweiler, Tom Savage, and Brandon Weeden good enough to help a defensive-minded Texans team win the AFC South again in 2016?
Foles has had a better NFL career thus far over any of the three quarterbacks on Houston’s roster. Yes, the Texans have put a huge price on Osweiler’s future success with the team, but he’s still largely unproven. In the right system, Foles has shown that he can be an efficient playmaker in the pocket. Osweiler has only shown that he can game manage with an all-time great defense backing him up.
Houston will probably just go ahead with what the Texans already have in their quarterback room, but keep in mind that they needed four different starting quarterbacks to go 9-7 and win the 2015 AFC South. Foles wouldn’t be the second-coming of Matt Schaub in Houston, but it wouldn’t hurt to see him challenge Osweiler for reps and bring the best out of a bad quarterback situation in Houston.
Next: 3. Indianapolis Colts.
