FanDuel daily picks: Fantasy baseball lineup-July 27
Catcher
High-Salary Option: Jonathan Lucroy-Milwaukee Brewers (3,700): On this side of the split schedule there aren’t a lot of reliable bats behind the plate, so it’s always a good idea to go with options you know well like Lucroy. Lucroy is almost always a good play behind the plant as a reliable hitter at right about .300 all season. This month his id 20-68 (.294) and has hit safely in four straight. He hasn’t faced tonight’s starter Archie Bradley but his splits are better against righties (.321 versus .238 against lefties), and he also enters tonight’s game at Miller Park with a healthy .937 OPS at home. He’s the most expensive play tonight, but he’s also the safest.∗∗∗∗
Mid-Range Option: Willson Contreras-Chicago Cubs (3,100): Contreras went 2-5 on Monday and then sat out yesterday while the Cubs were shut out against their crosstown rivals. The Cubs will try to get a win against the White Sox tonight in a favorable matchup against Anthony Ranaudo who was just recalled from Triple-A. If you’re looking for a lineup to stack, check out who starts for the Cubs tonight.
Contreras should find a way to get into the lineup after yesterday’s day off and will look to continue a relatively smooth transition to the Majors where he has gone 33-117 (.282) since being called up and has a .852 OPS. ∗∗∗
High-Value Option: Evan Gattis-Houston Astros (2,800): Gattis is always a boom-or-bust play, but he has been hitting well since the All Star break and has four homers in his last four games after going deep last night against the Yankees. He’s hitting just .221, but his .752 OPS shows the power potential his bat brings. He’ll be in a tough matchup against Masahiro Tanaka tonight, but I still think he has enough upside to be a high-risk option at under 3K. ∗∗
High-Value Option: Yadier Molina-St. Louis Cardinals (2,600): Molina has hit safely in ten games in a row and is now 17-60 (.283) in July. He went 2-4 with a double in yesterday afternoon’s game against the Mets before getting the night off. Molina raised his average to .264 on the season with that performance and is a relatively safe play against Logan Verrett of the Mets even though he doesn’t have quite as high a ceiling since he’s mostly a singles hitter.∗∗∗
High-Value Option: Jett Bandy-Los Angeles Angels (2,000): Bandy is crazy-cheap as the Angels take on Danny Duffy and the Royals tonight. Bandy is 12-39 (.308) this month and blasted his fourth homer of the year on Sunday in his last start. He has sat out the last two days, but should be back in there against the lefty tonight. Bandy is 8-20 (.400) against lefties this season with a healthy 1.278 OPS in those at-bats. Carlos Perez had a big game yesterday (4-5, 3R, RBI, HR), but it’ll be the other Angels’ catcher that I think contributes tonight.∗∗∗∗
