Second Baseman

High-Salary Option: Jose Altuve-Houston Astros (3,800): Altuve is surprisingly affordable for tonight’s game since there are three 2B who cost $400+ more than him when he’s usually at the top of the chart.  Part of that price reduction is due to his matchup against Masahiro Tanaka and the Yankees, but I think its a good chance to get an elite hitter at a reduced price.

Altuve is still leading the lead in hitting at .355 even after taking an 0-4 last night against New York.  He has had a great month of July going 29-83 (.349) with a .924 OPS.  He had hit whoever he has faced well and comes into tonight’s matchup 2-6 with a double and a homer against Tanaka in their past meetings.  I don’t expect Altuve to put op back-to-back downers, so look for him to post some solid numbers tonight at home against New York.

High-Salary Option: Scooter Gennett-Milwaukee Brewers (3,800): Gennett went 2-3 with three RBI in yesterday’s win over Arizona. He’s now 21-81 (.267) this month with two homers, 12 RBI, and six runs scored.  He has multiple hits in each of his last two games and has hit safely in five in a row. If you don’t want to roll with Altuve against Tanaka, Gennett is a solid alternative as he and the Brew Crew take on Archie Bradley.

Mid-Range Option: Jean Segura-Arizona Diamondbacks (3,700): On the other side of that same matchup tonight, Jean Segura will look to continue his recent hot streak against the team that traded him away.  Segura is 25-77 (.325) this month and a scorching 10-23 (.435) over the last week.  He hasn’t ever faced Jimmy Nelson before, but he should be ready to take down his former teammate tonight as the D-Backs try to get their first win in the third game of this four-game series.∗∗∗

Mid-Range Option: Robinson Cano-Seattle Mariners (3,400): There aren’t many great options between 3,600 and 2,700 leaving a gap in the middle of the 2B salary structure.  Cano is one of the few options in that price range that make sense even though he’s a little risky since he’s facing Gerrit Cole of the Pirates.  Cano is 23-79 (.291) in July and went 1-4 last night in Seattle’s 7-4 win.  On the season, Cano is hitting .303 with a very solid .892 OPS, so rely on his overall pedigree to triumph over his matchup if you need a 2B in the midrange.∗∗

High Value Option: Josh Harrison-Pittsburgh Pirates (2,400): Harrison didn’t start last night against Felix Hernandez, but he should be back in the lineup and hopefully near the top tonight against the Mariners’ James Paxton. Harrison has struggled throughout July, but he is 22-71 (.310) against lefties this season with a .792 OPS. Harrison has posted at least 12 fantasy points in three of his last four starts, so if the Bucs get him back in the lineup tonight give him a look at this very affordable price point. ∗∗∗

High Value Option: Greg Garcia-St. Louis Cardinals (2,300): Garcia played both games of yesterday’s double-dip going 3-7 with a double and a walk.  He is now 13-45 (.289) in July and 6-19 (.316) over the past week while helping the Cardinals fill in around their multiple injuries.  Look for Garcia to be in the lineup again tonight against Logan Verrett in a matchup he should be able to deliver some solid value from. ∗∗
