Jose Fernandez-Miami Marlins (13,400): Fernandez is definitely the class of the group taking the mound tonight and will be a very popular choice especially at Marlins Park where he almost always dominates.  Fernandez improved to 12-4 in his last start when he beat the Mets allowing two runs on seven hits in seven innings while striking out seven.  He has at least seven strikeouts in each of his last eight outings and is second in the NL with 175 in his 120.2 innings on the season.

He’s especially good at home where he is 9-1 this season with a 1.63 ERA and 104 strikeouts in 71.2 innings.  He is in a tough matchup against the Cardinals who he hasn’t faced this season and is 1-1 with a 3.46 ERA against in his career. I think he’s a great play tonight, but you will have to be a little creative with your bats if you go with the Marlins’ Ace tonight.

Cole Hamels-Texas Rangers (9,900): The second most expensive pitcher I’d consider for tonight is the Rangers’ Cole Hamels since the other options at this price are in tough matchups or have been out of form lately.  Hamels has bee excellent for the Rangers allowing just one earned run or fewer in six of his last eight starts while winning all six of those decisions to improve to 11-2 on the year.

He doesn’t have quite the punch out potential that Fernandez brings, but he’s a good start tonight against the Royals who he held to five hits and one unearned run in his last start although control issues did lead to an early exit after just 5.1 innings.  Hamels is also pitching at home tonight, but his road recored (8-1, 1.71 ERA) is actually much better than his home split (3-1, 4.53 ERA). ∗∗
