5 veteran running backs the Washington Redskins could sign
1. Reggie Bush
Bush is fully recovered from the knee injury he suffered in St. Louis last season, after an unfortunate encounter with some dangerous concrete just beyond the sideline, and the running back-needy Buffalo Bills reportedly have serious interest in him, to the point of offering a contract.
Bush is now 31 years old, which feels unbelievable for those of us that remember his college exploits at USC. But he has been a productive pass catcher over the course of his NFL career (seven seasons with 40 or more receptions), and if healthy he can be a top-notch change of pace option for a team. Back in June Bush said he had received interest from two unnamed teams, but earlier this month New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton dismissed the idea of a reunion.
If the Redskins are looking for an upgrade to Thompson as Jones’ immediate backup and a passing down back, Bush qualifies. If it comes down to finding the best opportunity to earn playing time for Bush, which it probably should, Washington may only stand behind Buffalo if he wants to sign somewhere soon.
