For casual NBA fans, VCU alum Troy Daniels may not be a household name just yet, but he made his own headlines Saturday evening on Twitter.

The sharp-shooting guard is entering his fourth NBA season — with his fourth different team — next year with the Memphis Grizzlies and earned his biggest payday yet earlier this month. The Grizz traded for Daniels and agreed to a 3 year, $10 million deal with the reserve guard.

Less than a month later he went out and bought his Mother a present with that money.

The full caption reads:

"Man when I tell you this is overdue it is…Me and my moms broke down crying just thanking the man above for everything he has helped us do…Was an honor putting a smile on my moms face..!! Use to dream of times like this…#DreamComeTrue for both of us..!!!! Love you mom..And Happy Birthday..!!! Enjoy today!!!!"

Before earning an NBA deal Daniels set the D-League ablaze averaging 21.5 points and 4.6 rebounds and hitting an incredulous 240 3-pointers in 48 games! That translates to 410 made threes in an 82-game season — Stephen Curry’s record this year was 402.

Daniels burst on the NBA scene back in 2013-14 when the Houston Rockets signed him from their D-League affiliate the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. Daniels hit a game winner in the playoffs against the Trail Blazers and earned himself a minimum 2-year deal.

Now, the reserve deep-threat is hoping he’s found a permanent home in Memphis after signing July 9th. The Grizzies finished 27th in 3-pointers made and 29th in 3-point percentage last season, so Daniels can certainly help fill that void if given ample opportunity.
