Throughout the years, it’s been very common for WWE to sign new talent that have football backgrounds. From WWE Hall of Fame legend “Big Cat” Ernie Ladd to even currently Brock Lesnar, every superstar has a unique background. On Monday morning, the company announced that newcomer Marcellus Black has joined the ranks. And he is also a familiar face to the NFL world.

To football fans, he is known as Brennan Williams. A third-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, Williams was selected by the Houston Texans. During his football tenure, he also was a member of the practice squad for the Jacksonville Jaguars and the New England Patriots. When his NFL career ended in 2015, he ventured into the world of professional wrestling and that led him to the doorstep of Houston native Booker T.

Booker runs a wrestling school and promotion in Texas City, near Galveston, and Williams began training for his in-ring debut. He would hit the ring for Booker’s “Reality of Wrestling” and have a series of competitive matches against the likes of “Ruthless” Ryan Davidson and others. He took to his Twitter page on Monday and confirmed the news.

He reported to WWE’s developmental facility in Orlando on Monday, also home of the popular NXT brand. In a report that was posted from WWE’s official website, Williams has training in martial arts as well as wrestling.
