4. Gleyber Torres

The New York Yankees opened up their season of selling by trading away closer Aroldis Chapman to the Chicago Cubs for four players. One of those players was Gleyber Torres, the slick-fielding middle infielder who was ranked the top prospect in the Cubs organization. Now ranked the number two prospect in the Yankees organization by MLB.com, Torres will have high expectations in the Bronx, but he should be just fine.

Torres signed with the Cubs in 2013 for $1.7 million out of Venezuela and quickly became the best prospect in the organization. After being named the top prospect in the Midwest League in 2015, Torres went on to help Myrtle Beach win the Class A Advanced Carolina League championship. Amazingly, he did all  this at 18 years of age.

Only 19-years old, Torres projects to be in the Major Leagues by the time he is 20 or 21-years old. The Yankees have a solid shortstop in Didi Gregorius, and already have a top shortstop prospect in their farm system in the person of Jorge Mateo. However, Torres is an amazing talent, and should be the Yankees starting shortstop by 2018 if the organization does not use him as trade bait.

Torres is currently playing for the Tampa Yankees of the High-A Florida State League, after batting .275 for Myrtle Beach before the trade. He will likely finish out the year in Tampa, and will certainly get an invitation to big league camp next Spring.
