1. Texas Rangers

To say that the Texas Rangers were sitting pretty leading up to the 2016 MLB Trade Deadline would be putting it lightly. They came into deadline day sitting six games in front of the second-place Houston Astros in the AL West and looking like there would probably be no one that would be able to catch them barring an absolute collapse. After the MLB Trade Deadline, though, it’s pretty clear that absolutely no one is going to catch them in the West and that they may now be one of the favorites to win the World Series.

After trading for pitcher Lucas Harrell on July 27, the Rangers stood pat for the next few days but were clearly putting in work behind the scenes. They started off Aug. 1 by coming out and making a deal with the New York Yankees for outfielder Carlos Beltran, thus strengthening an already potent offense. How did they follow that up? Only by adding to their offense even further with arguably the best bat available in Milwaukee Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy and got right-handed pitcher Jeremy Jeffress in the process.

While the Rangers may have been forced to give up some assets to get these deals to get them done, they strengthened their pitching a bit while beefing up their batting order even further. If you don’t consider Texas one of the frontrunners to win it all after the deadline, I’m not sure what you’re looking at.
