MLB Trade Deadline: 5 worst moves

2. Marlins add Cashner, Rea sort of
The Miami Marlins were able to add two new starters, but it’s arguable at best if Andrew Cashner will provide them with a good bit of help in their quest to get an NL Wild Card spot. Cashner is injury prone and inconsistent, which will have fans wondering if he is going to add much.
As for Rea, the Marlins had him, but now they don’t. Rea got one start for Miami and then hurt his elbow. With that, he was sent right back to the San Diego Padres for a prospect who was part of the initial trade. That left the team with a void to fill in its pitching rotation.
Cashner was 4-7 with a 4.54 ERA and 69 strikeouts so far this season with San Diego. He was able to pitch a decent six innings in a no decision as his new team got a 5-4 win recently over St. Louis.
It’s being said that Miami would make the playoffs if the season had ended as of the MLB Trade Deadline. However, it doesn’t, and they didn’t make a bigger move when needed.
Basically, Miami came away with one starting pitcher at best, and his track record doesn’t inspire a ton of hope for this team trying to reach the postseason.
