Tony Romo-Dallas Cowboys

Another player who is ending up in the teens in many rankings that I think has a good chance to end up as a top-ten QB is Cowboys’ QB Tony Romo.  Dallas’s quarterback is always under intense scrutiny for a variety of reasons, but Romo has actually performed pretty well in the spotlight of the star except for one major factor–injury.

Romo sustained a broken collarbone twice last season which limited him to just four games for Dallas.  He opened the year with 356 yards and three touchdowns against the Giants, but it all went down hill from there and he ended up the season with fewer fantasy points than Ryan Mallett, Brandon Weeden, and even Case Keenum.

The Cowboys are apparently confident in Romo’s health coming into this year, though, since they have avoided adding an established backup. He came into camp this season with just Kellen Moore and Dak Prescott on the depth chart behind him, and theres even less insurance after Moore broke his ankle yesterday. Still,  there seems to be no lingering concern at least in Jerry World.

In his last healthy season, two years ago, Romo got off to a slow start but ultimately ended up in the top ten QB’s in most scoring systems and leading the NFL in QB Rating. If he’s healthy, there’s no question he can be a fantasy factor, but he does have a problem staying upright.

He has a solid team around him with a stud receiver, Dez Bryant, on one side and emerging option Terrence Williams on the opposite side.  Both of those receivers struggled last year with Romo sidelined but should be able to re-emerge since there is little question of their abilities.  Romo also will have his security blanket Jason Witten back to keep defenses honest over the middle.

Let’s be honest, if you pick Romo you’re going to be worried about his glass clavicle and other injuries all season. However, if you can get him after ten QB’s have been taken, he has the potential to be one of the better picks of your draft which qualifies him to be in our fantasy football sleepers 2016 even though he’s a very well-known name.
