Most impactful NFL training camp injuries so far
By John Buhler
There is no way to get around it. Losing first-round draft pick in cornerback William Jackson, III for likely his entire rookie season in 2016 due to a pectoral muscle tear in 2016 NFL training camp is absolutely horrible for the Cincinnati Bengals’ secondary.
That being said, who’s to say that Jackson who played at a mid-major school at the University of Houston was going to be an immediate impact cover corner anyway as a rookie in 2016? The Bengals should still fight for playoff positioning in the AFC, as they do boast one of the deeper rosters in football.
Cincinnati is elite in the front seven and that should help compensate for the potential season-ending injury to rookie corner Jackson. So how does Cincinnati go about replacing their injured rookie corner? By bringing back the guy that Jackson essentially replaced: long-time Bengals cornerback Leon Hall.
Hall has been an integral part in the Bengals secondary since being a first-round pick by the club in 2008 out of the University of Michigan. He’ll fit seamlessly back into what the Bengals are doing schematically on the defensive side of the ball.
While the New York Giants are also in the mix to land Hall this offseason, it makes way more sense for him to re-up with the Bengals due to familiarity and that Cincinnati needs him more than ever with the news of the Jackson pectoral muscle tear on Tuesday.
