Dallas Cowboys. Kellen Moore. 2. player. 123. . Quarterback

The Dallas Cowboys had a disgusting 2015 NFL season for two reasons: 1.) Their defense personnel was bottom five in the NFL last fall. 2.) The Cowboys offense became non-existent once star quarterback Tony Romo broke his collarbone, twice.

Dallas went from 2014 Super Bowl contender to the worst team in the NFC in 2015 with an awful 4-12 record. It was painfully obvious that the Cowboys needed to address their quarterback depth chart after a disastrous 2015 NFL campaign.

Though the Cowboys drafted former Mississippi State Bulldogs star quarterback Dak Prescott to eventually be Romo’s backup, the growing sense was that former Boise State Broncos southpaw Kellen Moore would be the ideal backup for Romo this fall.

Well, that’s not happening anymore, as Moore fractured his leg in the first week of NFL training camp. Prescott could rise to the occasion and be a solid backup to Romo after Moore’s brutal injury. The problem is that there is no way that Prescott will do much of anything good for the 2016 Cowboys if thrust into the fire should Romo get hurt again this fall.

This leaves Dallas in a compromising scenario to either overspend on free agent quarterback Nick Foles, formerly of the St. Louis Rams, or orchestrate a trade with either the Cleveland Browns for Josh McCown or with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for Mike Glennon. Dallas doesn’t have the depth to make a wise trade for either McCown or Glennon.

Does Dallas even have the cap room to appropriately pay Foles what he is worth? Foles is a good replacement for Moore as Romo’s primary backup. Will the Cowboys pay Foles, make a trade, or roll the dice with the Romo/Prescott tandem? This just feels like a lose-lose-lose scenario. The only win is if Romo has a clean bill of health in 2016.
