The Tonga flag-bearer showed up shirtless and doused in oil and Twitter absolutely went berserk

Perhaps the greatest thing about the Olympics is the fact that it showcases the best athletes in the world. While that may seem obvious, it can’t be overstated how incredible it is for many athletes to be able to occupy this space on a stage of this magnitude with the chance to become a start. If you need any example of that, look no further than the Tonga flag-bearer that became a sensation at the Olympics Opening Ceremonies.

During the Parade of Nations, the Tonga flag-bearer named Pita Nikolas Taufatofua appeared on the screen shirtless, oiled up, and looking like an absolute Adonis as he carried the Tongan flag to the center of the stadium.

Needless to say, the Internet nearly imploded.

There’s so much to love about the Tonga flag-bearer, Taufatofua from this moment. And if you need to know all of the things to love, just check out how Twitter reacted to him coming before the world in all of his oily glory:

For those wondering, the 32-year-old Taufatofua is representing Tonga in taekwondo at the Rio Olympics after two failed attempts to make it to previous Olympics.

Even if he doesn’t win gold, he already has a medal in the hearts of the Internet. That’s basically the same thing, right?
