Donte Moncrief-Indianapolis Colts

While T.Y. Hilton is definitely a burner with plenty of big play potential to carry your fantasy team every week, I like his teammate Donte Moncrief to take a big step forward this season and be a starting WR option in almost every format.

Moncrief was developing a solid connection with Andrew Luck and was targeted almost as much as Hilton (11 fewer) in Luck’s seven games last year.  With Andre Johnson and Colby Fleener moving on to other teams this offseason, there are some extra targets to go around.  Moncrief could become a favorite for Luck in short-yardage situations and already was one of his favorite red zone targets.  In their seven games together, Moncrief led the Colts in receiving touchdowns with five.

It’s hard to evaluate the Colts receiving corps on last season since they were dealing with the loss of Luck, but with Luck back under center with his shiny new contract, they’ll be a solid group to target in the AFC South which has some questionable secondaries.  If Moncrief leads the Colts in catches or splits them evenly with T.Y. Hilton, he could easily be an every-week starter and a strong WR2.

Coming into the preseason, Moncrief is typically being ranked in the high 20’s or low 30’s.  If he’s your fourth WR drafted, you should be ecstatic since I think he’ll emerge as a legitimate WR2 play. He’s one of the fantasy football sleepers to keep an eye on this preseason to see how quickly he and Luck get back to full strength.
