Mixed martial arts fans are certainly familiar with judo as it pertains to being a part of MMA, but it’s a whole different ball game when it’s nothing but judo. That’ll be the case for the Olympics judo competition that will get underway for both the men and women on Saturday, August 6 on Day 1 of the 2016 Rio Olympics.

On Saturday as both the men’s and women’s Olympics judo competitions begin, there will be two gold medalists crowned by the end of the day. Before we get to that point, we’ll get to watch both the men’s 60 kg tournament and the women’s 48 kg tournament play out in their entirety.

Both tournaments will begin at Carioca Arena 2 on the different mats in the arena at 9 a.m. ET. The men’s tournament begins in the Round of 64 while the women’s starts at the Round of 32. From there, the rest of the elimination matches will take place throughout the day.

When the fields have been whittled down, there will be the bronze medal matches and the gold medal matches capping off the day and evening in Olympics judo.

Neither men’s nor women’s Olympics judo will be televised until 8 p.m. ET when some of the contests will be seen on NBCSN. However, you can catch all of the action on the live stream via NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app.
