Olympics men’s handball results from the matches on Day 2 of Rio 2016 on August 7

After the women dominated the handball action on Day 1 of Rio 2016, it was time for Olympics men’s handball on Sunday, August 7 on Day 2. While it’s long been the same group of countries that have dominated the sport for many years, this was the year in men’s handball when things could get shaken up. We got our first look to see just how things could play out with the first slate of matches on Sunday.

All 12 Olympics men’s handball teams were in action on Day 2 of Rio 2016 with the first matches happening in the early morning and the final matches taking place near the end of the day’s events. The real interesting storylines were to see what dark horse Qatar would look like in their opener in addition to what teams like Denmark, Germany, and other powerhouses would look like in their first matches.

Here’s a look at the scores and results from the first set of Olympics men’s handball matches held on August 7:

Group A

Croatia: 23, Qatar: 30

Denmark: 25, Argentina: 19

France: 25, Tunisia: 23

Group B

Sweden: 29, Germany: 32

Poland: 32, Brazil: 34

Slovenia: 27, Egypt: 26

If you missed out on the Slovenia vs Egypt or even the Poland vs Brazil matchups, definitely go out of your way to watch it. Both matches went down to the wire and were fantastic.

Outside of that, the squads though to be the medal favorites coming into Rio looked the part on Sunday. Now it’ll be all about maintaining a level of consistency.
