Did Donald Trump tell his supporters to kill Hillary Clinton?

Donald Trump might have just said the dumbest thing of his entire campaign on Tuesday.

UPDATE: The Trump campaign — emphasis on pain — has already put this story through the spin cycle. Here’s the justification clarification of that alleged death threat against Hillary Clinton:

We’re roughly three months away from one of the most important elections in American history. But rather than this being about an election in which we could elect the first female president of the United States, the narrative has consistently been about Donald Trump and how American needs to keep an insane person out of the White House.

Trump has been called a lot of things thanks to the things that he says, presumably after having just attempted to syphon gas from a semi truck in the parking lot of whatever rally he’ appearing at.

Racist. Sexist. Misogynist. Broke.

We can add assassination advocate to that list.

Trump might have officially crossed that line today, when he not so indirectly said that his supporters should murder Hillary Clinton or at least threaten her with violence.

"Trump: There’s nothing you can do if Clinton picks judges — “although the 2nd Amendment people, maybe there is.” https://t.co/QeRQpi0Jix— NBC News (@NBCNews) August 9, 2016"

We watched this in the FanSided office, and someone exclaimed that this was the final nail in the coffin for Trump.

It’s not. No way in Hell is it the final nail.

We’re getting to the point where there isn’t a final nail for Trump. How many times before has he said something outlandishly stupid or savagely racist and nothing has happened. He’s immune to accountability which has him hanging in this rarified space of being able to say anything he wants and pay no consequence.

This is dangerous though and needs to be taken seriously. Trump is going to have is tiny hands around and say that he was joking, but his window licking supporters, high on bath salts and moonshine, won’t get the humor.

Calling Hillary every name under the sun is one thing — it’s free speech. Advocating in a cowardly and indirect way for your political opponent to be killed or threatened with violence is another thing.

It’s un-American.
