The German women’s soccer team will be taking on Canada in the final match of the group stage of the Olympics soccer tournament. Germany won bronze in the 2000, 2004 and 2008 Olympics. They beat Canada the last time the two played each other, a friendly match in British Columbia. Germany won that match 2-1 over the Canadians.

The German team is coming off of a draw with Australia on Saturday. They are currently sitting in second place in Group F, with Canada in first. Germany will need a win in this match in order to stay in second place and advance to the quarterfinals stage.

Canada, on the other hand, will be trying as hard as they can to remain in first place and take the easier path through the quarterfinals.  They will be depending on their star goalkeeper Stephanie Labbé to keep up the amazing job she has been doing so far in these Rio Games. The Canadian team is a young team made up of 12 players at their first Olympic games, they are looking to prove that they belong with the best.

Canada has qualified to move on to the quarterfinals regardless of the outcome in this match with Germany, but they would much rather finish 3-0.
