With the last round of matches from each group being played at the same time to eradicate any tactics between teams to nullify games where a draw may be beneficial to both teams. That sees Group D games played simultaneously earlier on Wednesday. In this case, however, such measures are not necessary as almost of the qualification possibilities will be determined by the match in Brasilia.

With Portugal topping the group with six points from two games and Algeria already out of the equation floundering in last having lost both games, there is only really one qualification position to be decided, that being a straight shoot-out between Argentina and Honduras.

Honduras currently sits above Argentina in the table virtue of their superior goal difference, so simply to not lose would be sufficient for the minnows to stun the world and qualify from a very tough group. Argentina, meanwhile, have a clear and obvious target. Win and they’re in.

Moreover, they certainly have a more talented squad than Honduras, though with their full squad failings in this summer’s Copa America once again, talent does not denote success, as the country knows all too well, and nothing will be given for free against a hard-working and industrious Honduras side.
