2. Leadership

Towards the end of his tenure with the New York Yankees, Alex Rodriguez became a mentor to the young players in the organization. Everyone from owner Hal Steinbrenner to Manager Joe Girardi raved about his leadership in the clubhouse, which is something he would definitely bring to the Marlins. Miami is loaded with young talent, and a player of Rodriguez’s pedigree would go a long way.

Players in the Marlins organization already have the opportunity to get hitting tips from Barry Bonds, who is arguably the best player in the history of Major League Baseball. Adding a legend like Rodriguez to the active roster would be an incredible upgrade to both the dugout, and the clubhouse. He has seen it all during his 22 years in baseball, and his value to a young player cannot be measured.

Imagine a young major leaguer having the opportunity to get advice from both Barry Bonds and Alex Rodriguez.

While Rodriguez’s playing ability has diminished in recent years, it appears that his image has only gotten better. After sitting out all of the 2014 season, and trying to sue everyone in the world, Rodriguez has become a team-first kind of player. He can still contribute on the field, but his biggest value is now what he brings to an organization.

The Yankees thought so much of him that they offered him a special advisor role, which would have been met with laughs two years ago. They saw what his leadership does to an organization, and if they can get him to come back to playing, the Marlins should jump at the chance to add him.

People make mistakes, and Rodriguez has made plenty of them throughout his career. However, one thing that cannot be taken from him is his experience and baseball knowledge, two things that will pay dividends for years to come if Miami takes a chance on him.
