5. San Diego Padres

There is some recent history between the Dodgers and the Padres in such deals, as it was just two years ago that Matt Kemp was moved down the road in California as a part of a previous maneuver for the Dodgers to lighten their outfield load.

And while Puig would be a much different case and reason, there is some reason to believe this would be solid fit. The Padres are both looking to get younger, but not take on sizable salaries. Puig is owed another $25 million over the next three years, which is not a backbreaking sum of money even for a cost conscientious club like the Padres are.

The main hold up in such a deal would perhaps be the prospect cost for the Padres, who have been solely dedicated to upgrading its minor league ranks over the past year. However, if LA management decided to pull the trigger on an inner-division deal of this caliber, the prospect asking price would understandably not be a ransom-level demand.

The Padres are also currently reaping the awards of a similar such buy-low acquisition coming back into form in Wil Myers, the former American League Rookie of the Year who touched career-low levels in 2014, before being acquired prior to last season and became a first time All-Star this year. A Myers/Puig combo would be a strong set of building blocks for a Padres club that is rededicated to taking the long road back towards competitiveness.
