11. Miami, Florida

If there’s a city that combines food, culture, music, gorgeous weather, and pro-sports success better than the beautiful Miami, Florida, we haven’t heard of it.

The city is home to four professional sports franchises (although the Florida Panthers play north of town in Sunrise), and despite uneven success over the decades, has brought home enough championship hardware — on both the collegiate and professional levels — to put it squarely in the mix of flat-our best sports cities.

The Miami Dolphins remain the lone undefeated team in NFL history. And while Dan Marino never quite got over the championship hump, his status as one of the all-time best quarterbacks helped keep the Dolphins steadfastly competitive for years.

Meanwhile, Pat Riley helped turn the long-beleaguered Miami Heat into a perennial title contender and, through his signature savvy maneuvering, brought a trio of championships to South Beach (in 2006, ’12, and ’13).

Things haven’t always gone so smoothly for MLB’s Florida Marlins, but the team does have two titles to its credit (in 1997 and 2003), as well as a future superstar in Giancarlo Stanton.

And let’s not forget about the Miami Hurricanes, whose dominant runs in the 1980s, ’90s, and 2000s remain some of the most memorable dynasties in college-sports history.

Miami fans might get a bad rap for being fair-weather and fickle, but when it comes to atmosphere and tradition, few cities can hold a candle to this mecca of sports and sunshine.
