WWE SummerSlam 2016: 5 things we need to see
By Jack Crosby
2) Randy Orton overcomes Brock Lesnar
Yeah, I know, I was sort of a tease at the end of the last page, sorry not sorry. But no, I am not talking about a Stone Cold Steve Austin appearance (although that would be cool, as always).
No, the “stunner” that I am talking about should take place in one of the marquee matches on the card, and that match should feature Brock Lesnar eating a loss for the first time in a few years on WWE television, and yes, Randy Orton should be the man to do it.
Of course, this is a point of contention for a lot of people. While some like myself believe it might be a good idea, the majority believes that it would be a bad idea for a veteran like Orton to be the one that finally goes over on “The Beast,” reserving that spot for an up-and-comer who deserves the rub for their future.
But the fact of the matter is that Randy can get the win on Sunday and no harm would be done. He is the one that will be sticking around on Smackdown, and not to beat the dead horse here, that show needs some stability as it adjusts to its new life as a weekly live show. Having Orton as a top star on the brand is one thing, but when you add in that he acquired a pin on Brock Lesnar, it vaults him up there that much more. The show needs that.
And, hell, he doesn’t even have to get a “clean win.” This is Randy Orton we’re talking about after all. The savvy veteran can find a way to daze Lesnar just enough behind the ref’s back, get in a few RKOs and come away with the 1-2-3.
More importantly, though, this would be a good way for Brock to be “punished” for his failed drug tests during UFC 200. WWE proclaimed that they could not suspend him because he’s a “part-time” performer and he doesn’t fall under the Wellness Policy, so a good way to get the point across that he embarrassed the company would be for him, clean or not, to eat a pin on one of the biggest shows of the year.
