WWE SummerSlam 2016: 5 things we need to see
By Jack Crosby
1) Finn Balor heel turn; Bullet Club reunion
It’s been a while since we’ve had a real good double turn in WWE, huh? I mean one that people will remember for years to come. In actuality, you’d have to go all the way back to WrestleMania 13 and the infamous double turn in the Bret Hart-Steve Austin “I Quit” match to get a good example.
Sunday night in Brooklyn that can all change in the match that will likely be the main event on the card.
Finn Balor was drafted to WWE RAW as a top-five pick and boy did he make one hell of a first impression. He defeated former golden boy Roman Reigns during his first night on the main roster to earn a shot at being called the first ever WWE Universal Champion, which he can do at SummerSlam if he can defeat the top heel in the whole company now, Seth Rollins.
The thing is, though, when these two walk out of the arena on Sunday night, the roles should be reversed.
We’re not dumb; we know that Balor was put on the same show as Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows for a reason, that reason being we will see the true incarnation of Bullet Club in WWE. Sure, the small run with AJ was fine and all, but we know deep down that a run with the original leader would be much, much better.
It’s pretty simple, really. Earlier in the evening Anderson and Gallows finally dethrone New Day as tag team champs, and in their post-match promo they mention something along the lines of more changes to come and they’re not done yet. Then later in the night, it happens.
As Balor and Rollins are putting on what could be one of the best matches of the year, the “Demon King” just can’t seem to get the job done on Rollins, which should even draw some cheers for Rollins from the hardcore New York crowd. As the frustration sets in, he calls for his boys, Anderson and Gallows, who come down and make sure that the man who founded Bullet Club and gave them their fame is crowned the first-ever WWE Universal Champion.
SummerSlam goes off the air with Bullet Club (WWE version) holding all of the gold and people in the crowd stunned that the fresh new babyface has already turned on them and the company. Meanwhile, Rollins is ready to go on the ultimate babyface run that we know he can be absolute money with as he continues to chase a top title that he just can’t seem to reach when he first came back earlier this year.
That is how SummerSlam 2016 should be remembered for years to come.
