1. What are the Kings’ other options at point guard?

Rondo is a bit of a head case, but his brilliance on the hardwood is undeniable. That being said, losing him to the Bulls in 2016 NBA free agency leaves the Kings’ point guard depth chart embarrassingly weak.

At this juncture, Sacramento will likely trot out Darren Collison as its starting point guard on opening night at the brand new Golden 1 Center in downtown Sacramento. While Collison was the player that Cousins for whatever reason picked over Boston Celtics All-Star point guard Isaiah Thomas to be his long-term solution at point guard, he has since massively underwhelmed while Thomas is top 10 at his position in the NBA.

Not only has Collison been lukewarm on the hardwood, he is facing a domestic violence charge off the court. That’s distracting for a Kings’ team desperately wanting to turn the page on an otherwise atrocious decade of basketball.

If Collison falls out of favor, are the Kings really going to lean on 30-year-old journeyman Garrett Temple to run this offense with two players in Cousins and Gay that need constant attention all the time?

Just recognize the current point guard situation, see what Thibodeau wants from Divac’s armada of Sacramento big men, and land the point guard needed to help the Kings right the ship in Minnesota’s Rubio. Sacramento needs to become a more balanced team. Rubio adds versatility, defensive acumen, and above all, maturity to an island of misfit toys in Northern California.
