Bilal Powell

Powell had a quietly solid season last year as the third-down specialist in the Jets backfield while Chirs Ivory handled the early-down bruising work. Powell averaged over ten touches a game while he was healthy and finished with 701 all-purpose yards on 47 catches and 70 rushes.  He found the end zone twice as a receiver and once on the ground.

Powell is a change-of-pace back to Forte, but he could gain playing time if Forte breaks down or needs to limit his workload. If he gets 10-15 touches a game, Powell could end up being a nice late-round add especially in PPR leagues. He started the preseason with four carries for 13 yards and a touchdown while playing with the starting unit in the absence of Matt Forte.

It won’t cost you much to grab Powell late in your drafts since he’s going in the 13th round according to fantasypros.com’s consensus ADP. He’s the 44th back being taken in standard leagues and can be an end-of-roster option with solid upside.  If Forte’s injury is worse than anticipated or the veteran goes down, Powell would be a great option since he’d then be set up for the lion’s share of the work. He does have a limited ceiling, though, since even then he’d probably give up some work including goalline duties to the next player on our list of Jets running backs.
