Willie Snead-New Orleans Saints

The Saints are one of the most pass-heavy teams in the NFL, so anyone getting heavy doses of playing time with QB Drew Brees should have a good chance to put up numbers. Last year, the Saints tied the Chargers for the second-most passes attempted just behind the Ravens.  New Orleans’ offense led the league in passing yards falling just short of 5,000 yards and were the only team to average over 300 passing yards a game.

Brandin Cooks is getting most of the fantasy football attention in the Big Easy,a nd that’s definitely warranted since he’s their #1 target.  However, there is definitely enough passes to go arround which could lead to Willie Snead as a breakout WR.

Snead had a sneaky-solid season last year after spending his first year in the NFL on the Saints practice squad as a UDFA out of Ball State.  He finished last season with 984 yards on 69 catches with three touchdowns and a strong finishing kick for fantasy owners who had him in the playoffs.

Snead enters the year with some competition for the #2 role in New Orleans, but he’s earned the inside track on rookie Michael Thomas and sophomore Brandon Coleman.  While Thomas and Coleman have upside as deeper sleepers, Snead has the chance to emerge as a weekly starter if he continues to draw so much attention from Brees.

Right now, Snead is going in the 12th round as the 45th WR drafted.  He could easily emerge as a WR3 with WR2 upside even without any injuries to other Saints WR.  I think Snead is a great value and is set up to be a breakout WR that you can currently make your fifth WR on draft day.
