Chris Hogan-New England Patriots

Now we’re getting to the deeper fantasy football sleepers at the position who you can get late in your draft but have a chance to produce solid numbers and emerge as viable fantasy options. These next few potential breakout WR are all starting the season on waiver wires in some leagues, and are definitely names to keep a close eye on through the rest of preseason and into the first few weeks.

The first few weeks of the Patriots’ season will be tricky for Chris Hogan who joined the team this season as a free agent after three seasons in Buffalo. Hogan will be without Tom Brady for the first four weeks of the season, but he could end up a key piece of a prolific passing attack.

Whether Brady or Jimmy Garoppolo are under center, Hogan looks like he’ll compete with Danny Amendola, Keshawn Martin, and rookie Malcolm Mitchell for playing time on the other side of the field from Julian Edelman.  Edelman is banged up already this preseason, but he did return to practice last week after missing the first Preseason contest. Danny Amendola is also sidelined on the active/PUP list with knee and ankle injuries.  To further compound the growing issue at the position, Malcolm Mitchell dislocated his elbow in the first Preseason contest and could miss some time as well.

With all the injuries, there should be a window for Hogan to be a breakout WR if he can earn a good chunk of playing time. He suffered his own injury early in training camp when he hurt his shoulder, but he is back to full practice now. If Hogan can get healthy and in sync with Garoppolo and Brady, he could be a breakout WR that you can steal right now in the 19th round as the 69th receiver off the board.
