New York

Babe Ruth began it all for the New York Yankees. He is arguably the biggest star the Bronx Bombers have ever had. Ruth has a darn good case for being the best player ever because he was extremely dominant as a hitter and a pitcher (though he didn’t pitch with the Yankees). When he retired, he held the home run record. Old Yankee Stadium was commonly referred to as “the house that Ruth built.”

If Old Yankee Stadium was the house that Ruth Built, the new Yankee Stadium is the house that Derek Jeter built. While Alex Rodriguez was a significantly better player than him, Jeter was always the Yankees captain. Jeter’s clutch play led the Yankees to five World Series titles. He got over 3,000 hits. Naturally, his 3,000th hit was a solo home run. It’s really hard to imagine the Yankees without Jeter.

Mark Messier led the New York Rangers to a Stanley Cup in 1994 after famously guaranteeing his team would win. He had 691 points in 698 games with the Rangers during the regular season. The Rangers captain led his team to that 1994 Stanley Cup victory with 12 goals and 18 assists for 30 points in 23 games.

Joe Namath is known as “Broadway Joe.” He was one of football’s brightest stars. Namath is best known for guaranteeing a victory over the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III — and backing up his talk.
