Tennessee

Tennessee has a very strong Mount Rushmore.

Pat Summitt is the most accomplished women’s basketball coach ever. From 1987 to 2012, she won eight national championships with the Tennessee Volunteers. Summitt also won 16 SEC tournaments and 16 regular season SEC championships. She coached the 1984 USA women’s basketball team to an Olympic gold medal. Summitt’s 1,098 wins are the most of any NCAA basketball coach.

Peyton Manning is the only athlete who is on the Mount Rushmore of two states. He’s a very deserving candidate. Manning played for the University of Tennessee Volunteers and remains very involved with the community. He holds many Volunteer records, including most passing yards and most passing touchdowns.

Terrell Owens put the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga on the map. He had 1,078 receptions for 15,934 receiving yards. T.O. was named to six Pro Bowls and five first-team All-Pro squads. Owens is the only player to score against all 32 NFL teams. Only Randy Moss and Jerry Rice have more receiving touchdowns (153) than Owens.

Oscar Robertson is a 12-time NBA All-Star. He led the league in assists six times. Robertson won the NBA title in 1971 and the NBA MVP in 1964. He is 12th on the all-time NBA scoring list and sixth on the all-time assists list. Robertson once averaged a triple double over a full season.
