Vermont

Vermont’s Mount Rushmore naturally revolves around winter sports.

Martin St. Louis might be the best undrafted hockey player to ever play in the NHL. He went to the University of Vermont and starred their for four seasons, racking up 267 points. St. Louis was overlooked by NHL teams largely due to his diminutive figure, but he used that criticism as motivation. With two Art Ross Trophies, a Hart Trophy and a Stanley Cup victory, St. Louis proved everyone wrong and paved the way for smaller players such as Johnny Gaudreau of the Calgary Flames. He might be Canadian, but he still gets a spot on Vermont’s Mount Rushmore.

Andrea Mead Lawrence competed in the 1952 Olympics. She became the first female skier to win two gold medals in the same Games. Lawrence won gold medals in both the slalom and the giant slalom. She also won two gold medals in the 1952 World Championships — in the slalom and giant slalom.

John LeClair spent 16 seasons in the NHL. He scored at least 50 goals in three consecutive seasons and at least 40 goals in five consecutive seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers. LeClair won a Stanley Cup with the Montreal Canadiens in 1993 and made five All-Star teams from 1996 to 2000.

Jake Burton is a snowboarder who started the company Burton Snowboards, one of the world’s largest snowboarding manufacturers. He’s not exactly a household name, but Burton is a very influential figure in the world of winter sports.
