West Virginia

West Virginia’s Mount Rushmore features three of the best athletes of all-time, and a very popular head coach.

Jerry West is an alum of West Virginia University. He is best known as being the silhouette in the NBA’s logo. With the Mountaineers, West was a three-time All American and was named the NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player in 1959, despite losing in the Finals. West has won a combined eight NBA titles with the Lakers (one as a player and six as an executive). He currently serves as an executive board member for the Golden State Warriors.

Randy Moss got his start with Marshall. Moss was named a two-time All-American with the Thundering Herd and also ran for their track and field team. He is second only to Jerry Rice in career touchdowns. Moss forever changed how people viewed receivers. When Moss was at the top of his game, nobody could stop him. Or rather, the only person who could consistently stop Randy Moss was Randy Moss.

Hack Wilson set the MLB single season record for runs batted in with 191 in 1930. That is a record that stands to this day. He led the National League in home runs four times and in RBIs twice. The closest anyone has come to topping the 191 RBIs he got in 1960 was in 1999, when Manny Ramirez got 165.

Bob Huggins is the men’s basketball head coach for the West Virginia Mountaineers. He is from West Virginia and is an alum of WVU as well. Known as “Huggy Bear” because of his personality and his stature, Huggins has a 201-110 record with the Mountaineers.
