Michael Floyd

The Cardinals drafted Floyd in 2012 in the middle of the first round out of Notre Dame.  Many fantasy owners thought he would be the heir apparent to Fitzgerald and replace Fitz sooner rather than later.  Fast forward four years and we’re still waiting for that to happen.

Floyd did have a solid season with 849 yards and six touchdowns. He was slightly more consistent than John Brown although he did have slightly worse numbers overall while playing one fewer game.

Don’t think that Floyd is the third-best option on the Cardinals, though, as he reminded us coming down the stretch last season.  He started the season slowly after dislocating three fingers but posted five games of over 100 yards in his last seven meaningful regular season contests.

With both Fitzgerald and Brown ailing, Floyd has a chance to emerge as the #1 option of the three solid targets in Arizona.  He’s actually already being drafted as such going in the sixth round as the 26th WR drafted (one slot ahead of Fitz).  At some point, Floyd should ultimately pass Fitzgerald and be the #1 in Arizona.  If you think he’s ready for that breakout, he’ll end up being a nice grab as your third WR.

I like him as a WR3, but he isn’t under-priced at this point.  If Fitzgerald or Brown suffer a setback, Floyd would definitely jump into the WR2 discussion since I think he’ll end up on the fringes of the top-25 fantasy receivers this season.
