Ranking 32 NFL head coaches based on presidential potential
14. Adam Gase – Miami Dolphins
When he was hired by the Miami Dolphins this offseason, Adam Gase became the youngest head coach in the NFL. Considering he’s just 38 years old and only barely meets the minimum age requirement to be president (35), some would argue Gase should’ve been at or near the bottom of our list. To the contrary, I’d argue Gase’s youth and philosophies are his greatest assets.
When you consider the overall lack of talent Gase was working with as the offensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears, the team’s middling rank seems all the more impressive. Indeed, Gase displayed tremendous creativity and an ability to embrace challenges — in a manner uncommon for coaches with his relative lack of experience.
However, like Pederson, McAdoo and Koetter before him, Gase’s sheer lack of head-coaching experience has to be a factor. There’s a reason we don’t elect Congressional representatives to our nation’s highest office; you have to put in the time, and preferably tout more than just a handful of two-year terms. Still, Gase’s creativity and rising-star quality would make him an eminently enticing figure as a presidential candidate.
