Ranking 32 NFL coaches you’d want to have a beer with
Marvin Ronald Lewis, currently the second longest serving coach in the NFL, was born in a suburb of Pittsburgh on Sept. 23, 1958. This seems like a good place to start. Anyone born in or around Pittsburgh is going to have a steely disposition (see what I did there?), and Marvin Lewis is no different. His on-field presence is downright scary, and his post-game press conferences are notable for their lack of humor and wit.
Lewis is a good coach, maybe even great depending on who you’re talking to, yet I can’t help but think of his horrible playoff record of 0-7. Picture this: you’re out for a drink with coach Lewis. You’re on round three and he starts pouring his heart out to you because he can’t even buy a playoff win.
Unless you’re a Bengals, Bills or Browns fan, you’ve got no sympathy for the guy, so you’re stuck there pretending to feel bad while in the back of your mind hoping he gets into another playoff game so your team can basically get a bye. That is, if your team is in the AFC.
I’m sure Marvin Lewis is a wealth of football knowledge, and he seems like an overall nice fellow, but I can’t picture myself sitting down with him over a pint. Or maybe I can, and that’s why he sits at No. 31.
