5 strikers Arsenal should sign
By James Dudko
5. Lucas Perez
Lucas Perez likely isn’t a name familiar to most Arsenal fans, but he’s been one of the more prolific strikers in Spain’s top flight. The 27-year-old helped himself to 17 goals in La Liga for Depor last season.
More specifically, Perez is exactly the type of forward Wenger has been searching for all summer. Namely, one with greater pace and more varied movement than Giroud. That’s why he bid for Vardy and Lacazette, and why he mistakenly indulged Walcott’s desire to play through the middle last season.
Perez is a smart, perceptive mover who times his runs well and accelerates away from his markers. He’s also the calm and classy finisher Wenger’s squad lacks at the position.
Those qualities make him a bargain at the proposed £17 million Arsenal are reportedly about to sign him for ahead of Everton, according to Spanish source Marca, per Kaveh Solhekol of Sky Sports News.
Perez isn’t a marquee name, but this potential deal has shades of the superb surprise signing of Eduardo da Silva back in 2007.
Next: Carlos Bacca, AC Milan
