One person who does not support Colin Kaepernick’s actions is his former head coach Jim Harbaugh.

Michigan Wolverines head football coach Jim Harbaugh has never been one to hold anything back when giving his opinion. His outspoken nature and his willingness to express his opinion makes him an open book. When asked about his former quarterback Colin Kaepernick of the San Francisco 49ers, Harbaugh had a lot to say.

Harbaugh said that while he respected Kaepernick’s right to sit during the national anthem, he doesn’t respect his motivation nor his actions.

His opinion seems to be a popular one. Kaepernick has every right to sit out the national anthem. Military members fought for his right to do so. The freedom of speech is what makes America the home of the free. However, Kaepernicks’ methods and motivation for his protest are less than ideal at best.

While Kaepernick probably should have chosen a better way to protest something that is near and dear to the hearts of many, perhaps sitting out the national anthem was the only way that his voice would get heard. Kaepernick is not the lone NFL player who feels that way. Eagles rookie linebacker Myke Tavarres will be joining Kaepernick’s side by sitting out the national anthem on Thursday against the New York Jets.

It’s hard for many people to grasp why Kaepernick is protesting in the manner that he is. To be fair, not everyone can understand the plight of African-Americans in the United States. It wasn’t too long ago that African-Americans were slaves and racism is a very touchy subject. While people might not respect Kaepernick’s opinion or his actions, he has an undeniable right to express it.
