18. New York Giants

31.
It was a strong effort by the New York Giants front office in free agency and the draft to fix the problems that have plagued their defense for the past five years. It should be much improved this season, but it’s unlikely they fixed every position in one go. That almost never happens.

With their focus being exclusively on the defensive line and secondary, they really couldn’t devote much attention to the linebackers aside from a modest fourth-round pick in B.J. Goodson. What the unit could really use is a man in the middle to help direct the action. Jasper Brinkley is hardly the answer.

They’ll be hard pressed to find somebody better in 2017 than Jarrad Davis. The Florida standout showed just how versatile and effective he can be last year. Not only does he have good size, but his instinct and intensity are evident on every play. He can play downhill, delivering hard hits and able to knife into the backfield to pressure the quarterback.

Some might question his speed but he’s got enough to function well in coverage too. He’s also a gamer. The better the opponent, the bigger he plays. Those are the types New York fans demand.
. ILB. Florida. Jarrad Davis . 18. player
