20. Josh Cribbs

The life of a kick returner isn’t one just anybody can pull off. First, you have to have NFL-standard levels of speed and athleticism, which rules out 99 percent of the population right off the bat. Even if you are that gifted physically, think about what you’re committing to psychologically. You have to calculate the strength of the kicker and the impact, if any, of the weather, in order to figure out where you should go to catch the ball. You need a good visual angle to see the ball coming. Palms up. Elbows in. As you’re crossing off this mental checklist, 11 large and powerful men are running full speed toward you, hoping to separate your body from itself. And to top it all off, since this is a kickoff and not a punt, the ball is live. You have to catch it.

Josh Cribbs, currently a free agent, is tied for the most kickoff returns for touchdowns ever. He is the only player ever with two 100-yard returns in the same game. He tied the NFL record for most kickoff return touchdowns in a game. He’s spent years mastering the body and mind nuances of avoiding a fast-moving herd that means him harm. Those skills are essential to have on your side in a zombie apocalypse.
