29. Colin Kaepernick

Yes, Kaepernick has the total physical package to do well in a zombie apocalypse. He runs fast (4.53 40-yard dash time), he can change direction on a dime, and he’s used to adjusting and improvising a game plan as the violence around him spreads. His recent decision not to stand during the national anthem is evidence of someone who doesn’t adhere to the status quo, but instead thinks about the reasons why we do the things we do. Curiosity and independence are valuable commodities when civilization has collapsed and nobody around you has any more understanding or protection than you do.

The biggest benefit Kaepernick would bring to an apocalypse: he knows what it is to endure a collapsing structure and fight on anyway. In 2012, his first year quarterbacking the 49ers, they reached the Super Bowl. In 2013, they lost the NFC Championship Game in the last minute to Seattle. Since then they’ve slipped from 8-8 to 5-11; speculation ran rampant that he’d be traded away after the Niners hired new coach Chip Kelly. Yet Kaepernick is still on the roster, still hanging on even after people wrote him off. You need guys like that in your corner when all the worlds collapsed around you. To keep you going, even when it doesn’t seem to matter anymore. Better days will be there some day. If you remember how good they were once, they’re easier to fight for again.
