Colin Kaepernick continued his silent protest on the 49ers sideline, kneeling during the national anthem on Thursday night in San Diego

Colin Kaepernick has been discussed more than just about anyone over the past week. After he first made his protest about police violence by sitting during the national anthem, Kaepernick has heard it all from every angle. There are those vehemently against what the San Francisco 49ers quarterback did in protest. Meanwhile, there are those that support his right to do so as well. It’s a hung jury, so to speak, of public opinion. However, that’s not stopping the quarterback from being heard.

Prior to the 49ers matchup on the road against the San Diego Chargers on Thursday night, it was clear that the crowd was not in favor of Colin Kaepernick. Just when he simply ran on the field, the boo birds flocked to the stadium in droves. However, when the national anthem started, there was the Niners quarterback again making a statement. Though he kneeled this time while the anthem was sung, the message was still the same. As if we thought this story was going somewhere, it’s definitely not after he continued his gesture on Thursday.

It’s also important to note that Kaepernick was not alone in his protest this time around. 49ers safety Eric Reid joined him on Thursday night, amidst the boos. Seattle Seahawks safety Jeremy Lane also sat prior to his game in Oakland:

As stated, there’s no “popular opinion” when it comes to those matter. There are two very distinct ends of the spectrum. And one side thinks the other side is a bunch of idiots. Thus, it’s hard to reach any kind of resolution with this story because of it. And him continuing his protest is obviously only going to keep people talking.

Only time will tell if these protests bleed into the regular season. Though I’m sure the Niners would love to not have the distraction, it’s hard to tell, Colin Kaepernick has been steadfast in his beliefs to this point. Thus, there’s no reason to believe he’d stop just because preseason is over.
