2. Oregon has a chance to get to the College Football Playoff

Nothing increases Heisman Hype more than a player carrying his team to the College Football playoff. Perfect examples of this have been the previous two Heisman trophy winners, Derrick Henry of Alabama and Freeman’s former teammate Marcus Mariota. Both received huge boosts when they carried their teams the College Football Playoff.

Oregon is a quality team. Just the fact that they are still regarded so highly after a pretty disappointing 9-4 season means the voters still remember the pedigree that this team has possessed in the past.

If Oregon is going to return to the glory they had only two seasons ago, it certainly will be because of Freeman. Most people think of Oregon as a throw-first team. However, the truth actually is that they are a heavy run-oriented team that loves to pound the ball. Last season the Ducks ran the ball 618 times as opposed to only 375 pass attempts.

If Freeman gets half of the run attempts like he did last year, the gaudy numbers that he can put up will certainly be enough to gain the attention of the Heisman voters.
