While nobody seems to care that Group of 5 Houston cracks the top 10 in the Amway Coaches Poll, who would have thought that the SEC’s Georgia Bulldogs were going to be No. 9 in both major college polls entering Week 2?
Yes, the Bulldogs’ neutral-site victory over the North Carolina Tar Heels was impressive, but was it really worth moving up seven spots in the Amway Coaches Poll from No. 16 to No. 9? Smart had his players showing a kind of on-field discipline unaccustomed to what happened in Athens under former head coach Mark Richt. Georgia looked like Alabama on Saturday: dominant in the trenches, great running game, game management at quarterback, and the occasional special teams gaffe.
