13. Sacramento Kings

Last championship: 1951

Last winning season: 2005-06

It’s easy to remember the glory days of Chris Webber, Mike Bibby, Jason Williams, Peja Stojakovic, and Vlade Divac streaking up and down the rebranded court the Maloof Brothers pulled together to make the Kings seem cool. Those were the good times, with an exciting team that fought the Kobe-Shaq-era Lakers to the bitter end in numerous epic playoff spats.

At the same time, it’s just as easy to forget that all of this took place over a decade ago, and that since that time, the Kings have sunk back into the tortured depths of the bottom of the Pacific Division.

Today, the Kings have regained the form they had long before C-Webb took to the court, back when they and the Clippers were the whipping boys of the West. This was a legacy they carried over from their days in Kansas City, where they dwelled from 1972 until 1985, as well as during the final stages of their days as the Cincinnati Royals before that.

Sacramento has been the franchise’s longest stop, and it’s also been the most torturous. The Kings went through an eight-year stretch from 1987 to 1994 where they finished with fewer than  30 wins every year and failed to finish in the top 10 in the Western Conference in any one season.

After the Rick Adelman-era ended in 2006, the kings plunged right back into their halcyon depths, where they’ve pretty much remained since. Over the past 10 years, the Kings have only twice eclipsed 30 wins, reclaiming their seemingly rightful place as the West’s once and future doormats.
