Upset Watch – Kentucky over Florida

The Gators, who were ranked No. 25 in last week’s polls, dropped one spot and are now on the outside looking in (switching spots, oddly enough, with former in-state rival Miami). Even with that, this game still gets “upset worthy” recognition because of what has taken place over the past three decades.

The year was 1986 – that was the last time that the Wildcats defeated the Gators on the football field, a 10-3 win in Lexington that season. Since then, it has been all orange and blue each season.

The last two games, Kentucky arguably should have ended the streak – including a triple overtime loss in 2014 and a five-point defeat last season in which the Wildcats had the ball and were driving for the winning score.

It’s going to be tough since the Wildcats are coming off an embarrassing letdown in their season-opening loss to Southern Miss, one where they let a big lead slip away. Florida, however, is coming off a win over UMass where they were up 10-7 in the fourth quarter – against a team that isn’t better than most FCS opponents.

Streaks are meant to be broken…especially ones that have lasted longer than the lives of any player on both teams.
