Defenders

Busts

It hasn’t been the best start to the season for Manchester City’s John Stones (£5), in terms of fantasy points anyway. The young center-back has started all three of City’s matches so far, but has only mustered four fantasy points. Stones’ ICT (Influence, Creativity and Threat) rating is in the bottom half among defenders.

He has been able to produce a decent amount of bonus points, but for this week, when he is facing an attacking force led by Zlatan Ibrahimovic, you should look elsewhere.

Bargains

If you are looking for a defender who can tally big points this weekend, look no further than another West Brom player, Gareth McAuley (£4.7). Like Foster, McAuley is a top point getter early on, and looks to be in a good position to continue that feat.

The Baggies may sit mid-table, but McAuley and Foster have been big reasons why. West Brom’s defense first approach has helped them both, as McAuley has put up more than six points in his first three games.

Over 3 million people think McAuley is a good purchase, and a winnable match against Bournemouth should make this decision even easier.

Everton youngster Mason Holgate has also been generating buzz, and you should pick him up before his price rises.

After back-to-back seven point performances against West Brom and Stoke, Holgate has been impressive early on. He is a cheap option at £4.6 and with Everton taking on Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace in the coming weeks, the Toffees defender should be able to grab some important points early on. Keep an eye on the fitness of Seamus Coleman, however, who may push Holgate out of the lineup once he returns to full health.
