15. Texas Longhorns

While Texas might be ranked higher in some of the other polls, I’m not really sold on the Horns. Sure they’ve beaten Notre Dame but is Texas really “back?” Luckily for us, we will see just how far Charlie Strong and the Longhorns have come as they go to Cal this weekend. A win here and I’ll be impressed, a loss and we can cancel the “Texas is back” party.

Last game: Win vs. UTEP 41-7

Next game: At Cal (9/17)

14. Georgia Bulldogs

You’d think Georgia’s season-opening win over North Carolina would’ve helped spark the Bulldogs to an overwhelming win over Nicholls, Nope. The Dawgs decided to make it dramatic with a 26-24 victory. This has to be frustrating for Georgia fans knowing they’ve got the weapons to be successful, the only thing holding them back is getting consistent play from the quarterback. Freshman Jacob Eason has loads of potential but was benched in favor of Greyson Lambert. He should rebound and Georgia should be fine.

Last game: Win vs. Nicholls 26-24

Next game: At Missouri (9/17)

13. Tennessee Volunteers

From one of the worst performances in the seasons first week to one of the most impressive. Tennessee shined bright under the lights of Bristol vs. Virginia Tech. Consistency is key for the Vols, a little more balance as well. More than 230 yards on the ground and just 91 in the air won’t win many ballgames in 2016. Still, they looked much better closing out the Hokies.

Last game: Win vs. Virginia Tech 45-24

Next game: vs. Ohio (9/17)

12. Oklahoma Sooners

Oklahoma’s tightrope act back to the CFP will face possibly it’s toughest test this week against Ohio State. If Oklahoma wants to win, they’ll need to figure out some defensive issues they had in their season opening loss to Houston, who runs a similar style of offense as Ohio State. OU allowed 410 yards of total offense, if that happens against Ohio State then it’s going to be a long night in Norman.

Last game: Win vs. Louisiana-Monroe

Next week: vs. Ohio State (9/17)

11. Louisville Cardinals

Biggest surprise of 2016 so far? Possibly the Louisville Cardinals. They’ve been the most impressive team that’s not among the CFP title contenders. Quarterback Lamar Jackson has lit up opponents so far with 697 yards passing and 318 yards rushing and 13 total touchdowns. This week he faces Florida State at home in a game that could be considered the biggest home game in Louisville history.

Last game: Win vs. Syracuse 62-28

Next game: vs. Florida State (9/17)
