10. Michigan State Spartans

Michigan State is your typical Michigan State team under Mark Dantonio. They’ve been under the radar, pushed aside to make room for other teams in the Big Ten. That all changes when they head to South Bend this Saturday to face Notre Dame. The offense’s performance was good against Furman in the opening game of the season. It will need to be great if they want to walk out of South Bend with a victory.

Last game: Win vs. Furman 28-13 (9/2)

Next game: At Notre Dame (9/17)

9. Iowa Hawkeyes

With the CyHawk Trophy in hand, the Hawkeyes have an interesting test this week. Noted FCS power and FBS giant killer, North Dakota State. The Hawkeyes should beat the Bison, but stranger things have happened before. If Iowa can match their 42-point outburst last week, then they should have no trouble this week.

Last game: Win vs. Iowa State 42-3

Next game: vs. North Dakota State (9/17)

8. Washington Huskies

Washington has come into the season with a ton of hype and in some ways has lived up to it. Sure beating Idaho and Rutgers is nothing to write home about, it’s still good to see a team actually cashing in on what they need to do each week. Portland State offers little challenge this week. The Huskies could be moving up sooner than most think.

Last game: Win vs. Idaho 59-13

Next game: vs. Portland State (9/17)

7. Stanford Cardinal

Stanford’s opening schedule from hell continues this week with a visit from USC. Now initially some of us though that USC would be the first test for the Cardinal in 2016 but seeing that USC has gone off the rails as go late maybe the Cardinal are catching them at the right time.

Last game: Win vs. Kansas State 26-13 (9/2)

Next game: vs. USC (9/17)

6. Houston Cougars

Thursday presents a challenging AAC game with a trip to a potential future Big 12 opponent in Cincinnati. The team is expected to get quarterback Greg Ward Jr. back from a shoulder injury that kept him out this week.

Last game: Win vs. Lamar 42-0

Next game: At Cincinnati (9/15)
